At a recent Rotary meet, I had the pleasure of speaking on Confident Communication, covering key areas like active listening, enhanced speaking techniques, and methods to improve our overall communication skills.
Unexpected Dynamic
What made this session unique was the constant flow of attendees. Every five minutes, two or three new people entered the room. This created an unexpected challenge, as not everyone was on the same page, which threw me slightly off at first.
Adapting in the Moment
Initially, I wasn’t sure how to proceed, but I quickly found a solution by paraphrasing key points to keep everyone aligned. This was a completely new experience for me, as I had never faced such a dynamic audience.
Discovering a New Version of Myself
Stepping out of my comfort zone, I realized that confident communication isn’t just about delivering content but being flexible and adjusting to the room. By the end of the session, I was pleased to provide the same quality input to everyone.
A Rewarding Experience
Despite the varying arrival times, I believe each participant gained something valuable.
